A God
A God who could stop this war
And all the others for that matter
And chooses not to intervene
Cannot be a God we can believe in.
That God can simply not exist
Except in wild imaginations
Born in different times
Of Stone Age machinations.
If there is a Force or Spirit
It cannot be a human one.
Our best prayers just a guess
At knowing the unknowable.
There is a call to hope
Above the chaos in the universe
A call to serve and love
Defeat despair, despite it all.
Humans at their best
Know their place in time and space
And equally know that the spirit
Can lead us onto grace.
It’s not so complex really
We daily see the miracle
We simply see the evidence
Wherever good is practiced.
My God is just as real
As the one preached from the pulpit
The only one my prayers might change
Is the author of these verses.
But what to make of miracles
That come from wishing others well?
The Butterly effect across the world
I hope but simply cannot tell.
